Info on Music Therapy

A couple of the support groups in my area (GA/SC border) are interested in learning more about music therapy. We have few therapists and resources for the discipline around here. Does anyone have any suggestions for what we can do without the direction of an experienced therapist?

  1. What about contacting a local university's music department? Also I attended an ATTP training last summer that was well represented by music therapists. I will take a look at the contacts in my ATTP folder when I get back into the office.

  2. Hi Amanda,

I checked my folder from the ATTP training I attended a year ago in Kirkland, WA. That training was well represented by Music Therapists. In our information folder from the ATTP training they listed a few websites about Music Therapy. Here are three of them that look like they could be useful:

    www.musichaspower.org
    www.colostate.edu/depts/cbrm
    www.neurosong.com/index.php

The first one has a small section specific to Music Therapy and PD.

Also there is a national Music Therapy association website that might be helpful:

    http://www.musictherapy.org/

I hope this helps. Good luck!
